In the name of transparency, Montane will also become the first brand in the world to commit to the RDS across its entire clothing range. Allied’s Trackmydown service will be implemented through hang tags on products. Each tag will not only explain the technology in the product, but will also feature a unique SourceTRACK lot number. This combination of RDS certified down, SourceTRACK & trackmydown, new HyperDRY™ down technology and Allied swing tickets will make Montane’s Autumn / Winter 2015 down garments the most informative and transparent line of down clothing to date.

Not the lightest but exceptionally warm and very well made. Sizes are quite large and had to return and order a size smaller but customer service and returns process was very efficient.

I previously owned the Montane Black Ice 2 down jacket.
Unfortunately, it was a little too small for me and not warm enough.
Since I was very satisfied with the quality, I looked back to Montane for an alternative.
The Alpine 850 Down Jacket seemed ideal.
The fill power of the down is excellent. The long cut of the sleeves and body is ideal.
Only the neck area is too wide, which is why I sewed it down a bit.
If I wear a rucksack with a hip belt over my jacket, I miss the outer breast pockets, as the access to the 2 side pockets is then somewhat restricted.
This outer breast pocket as well as an inner pocket with zipper is available on the Black Ice.
Not really to be missed, but I would still like an additional sleeve end with a thumb loop.
For such a warm jacket, I would also like to have a warm collar, like the rudimentary ones on the Black Ice, in a larger shape.
The outer material makes a very robust impression, although I haven't been able to test it like that.
The compressibility is phenomenal.
The insulation / weight ratio is just great.
I will use them on mountain tours in winter and at high altitudes, where a small pack size and low weight are particularly important.
I would buy the jacket again.
